Project background

West Lothian Council received £17,875 to explore Blue Network Enhance Projects focused around Linlithgow Loch and the River Almond. A study has identified a series of projects to address flooding and remediate the quality of the water within Linlithgow Loch, address aspects of biodiversity and landscape quality, and improve community awareness of the Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). In partnership with the Forth Fisheries Trust an integrated plan has been prepared for the control/eradication of invasive non-native plant species (Himalayan Balsam, Japanese Knotweed, Giant Hogweed) within the riparian corridors of the River Almond.  The Council will be working with the Linlithgow Local Catchment Management Partnership and the Forth Fisheries Trust to ensure the reports are factored into existing plans and programmes. Funding is also being investigated to allow both schemes to be implemented.
