The landscape of central Scotland

The CSGN area covers just under 10,000 square kilometres, has 3.5million residents and stretches from Girvan in the south west to Leven and Dunbar in the east. There are areas of exceptional beauty offset by landscapes which are in significant decline.

Our aim is to change the face of central Scotland by restoring and improving the rural and urban landscape of the area. Although the area has a shared industrial heritage, the condition of the physical environment differs widely across it. We are giving priority to action where the need is greatest.

To help describe the scale of our vision for central Scotland, we have created an illustrative transect of the area’s landscape typologies and highlighted the benefits of the CSGN.
