Making Liveable Places

The CSGN has a key role in creating quality, ‘liveable places’ in central Scotland. It focuses on the role of multifunctional green infrastructure and the importance of access to nature in making better places to live and work.

A major aspect of this is restoring biodiversity through expanding and connecting natural habitats that can also be enjoyed by people.

Actions

The CSGN facilitates projects that deliver the following actions

URBAN GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE

CSGN projects aim to embed quality green infrastructure into placemaking and urban design.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL GREENSPACES

Promoting and delivering greenspace, both in the creation of new developments and retrofitting of existing places.

PROMOTING ACCESS TO NATURE

Enhancing people’s experience of nature and ensuring increased access to natural spaces.

TACKLING THE BIODIVERSITY CRISIS

Restoring ecosystems that have suffered in our industrialised and urban landscapes.

CREATING AND PROTECTING HABITATS

This includes enhancing priority sites and creating new areas of habitat, particularly semi-natural habitats in and around urban areas.

INCREASING HABITAT CONNECTIVITY

Aiming to reduce habitat fragmentation and improve connectivity and habitat coherence, giving species a greater chance of regrowth and resilience.

LIVINGSTON SOUTH BLUE-GREEN NETWORK

This initiative aimed not only to enhance the ‘green’ elements of urban landscape but also to improve and reconnect them with the ‘blue’ network of ponds, wetlands and urban drainage systems scattered along the length of the local river corridors.
