Designing for a Changing Climate: New publication looks at how places can support decarbonisation

Scotland’s design agency, Architecture and Design Scotland, has published a report setting out how places across Scotland can tackle climate change, whilst improving the quality of life for the people living there.

The report which collates learning from a one-year pilot study, supported by the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Division, looks at changes that can be made to tackle climate change. The examples come from different scales – from an urban neighbourhood through to a rural community.

Re-use derelict land to support economic growth and wellbeing, says Taskforce

Derelict land is a wasted resource that should help to deliver national ambitions for a fair and green recovery, a national taskforce said today.

The Vacant and Derelict Land Taskforce has made a series of recommendations to Scottish Government which aim to transform Scotland’s approach to tackling the legacy of derelict land and ensure that it is no longer acceptable to allow land to fall into long term disrepair.

Beat the Street Forth and Clyde sets off on the right foot!

The Beat the Street Forth and Clyde physical activity game is off to a great start this week with 1,062 players signed up and a total of 1,600 miles travelled.,

The Beat the Street game was officially launched at Falkirk Wheel on Friday with Michael Matheson MSP for Falkirk West, with organisers and representatives from the game’s organisers and funders; Central Canals Development Project, the Kelvin Valley and Falkirk LEADER Programme and Paths for All's Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund.

Scottish Government launches its programme for 2020/21

Today sees the publication of Protecting Scotland, Renewing Scotland – the 2020/21 Programme for Government. While the document, understandably, focuses on the impact of and recovery from the Covid19 pandemic, it is reassuring to see the Scottish Government restating its commitments to climate change action, biodiversity and a green recovery.

Green Funding Boost from CSGN Growing Food Together Fund

Nine environmental projects across central Scotland have received just over £100k of funding from the Central Scotland Green Network Growing Food Together fund to encourage community growing and promote healthy eating.

Supported by the Scottish Government, projects are sharing the fund to foster community engagement in growing and learning about food, and promote healthy eating and outdoor exercise.

The Green Action Trust, one of Scotland’s leading environmental regeneration charities, is managing the fund as part of its work to drive forward the delivery of the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN).
